Elyce wrote to me recently and I finally found her email!  At any rate, she is our October Author…. for 2019-because she is truly amazing!  Here’s her note to me, along with contact info.

Hello Jeanette,
Attached to this email is a photo per your request. Also attached is a pdf file listing my 29 books writing as Elyse Bruce (the Missy
Barrett books are Flinch Free) or as E.B. Taylor (which sometimes include bad language so it’s best not to mention them if your
blog is focused primarily on being Flinch Free) as well as 3 music CDs (2 are instrumentals).  Let me answer your questions:

What makes you write?
Actually nothing makes me write. What I mean by that is that anything that’s created out of obligation is going to have a
completely different feel than something that is created because something out of the ordinary (which may be very ordinary to
everyone else at the time) caught my attention.
I don’t want to change the world, although my favorite fictional character, 9-year-old Missy Barrett, wants to make the world a
better place to live in for everyone.
I don’t want to wag my finger at adults and call out their bad behavior.
I observe the world around me, and when something interests me, I take the time to learn more about it. That usually leads me
to a better understanding of the situation that caught my eye, and sometimes it leads to a story as well.
What inspires you?
Inspiration is an interesting thing. By definition, inspiration is a sudden brilliant, creative, or timely idea. Most creative types
have moments like that however I find that if a person waits to be inspired, very little is ever written or painted or composed.
What I do is observe.
When I’m out and about running errands, I notice other people and what they are, or aren’t, doing. When a interesting news
story comes across my newsfeed, I will stop and ponder the many ‘what if’ aspects of the story.
Sometimes a comment posted to social media will give me pause to think about what may, or may not, be going on in that
person’s life.
Even dreams can be a source of inspiration for a story. I am currently writing a novel that came about as a result of a detailed
dream I had a year ago. I’m writing it under one of my other names (E.B. Taylor) and hope to have it complete in early 2020.
At the end of the day, life inspires me. I have learned so much from knowledgeable toddlers making discoveries, and from
developmentally delayed adults who interpret the world around them through a unique perspective. Seniors have told me stories
from their pasts, telling me what it was like growing up in the 1920s and 1930s, and their trials, tribulations, challenges, and
achievements as adults in the 1940s and later. Online and real life friends have shared stories of failure and success.
How they relate their stories inspires me to write. I hope others are inspired by the stories I write, and the stories I tell.
How many books have you written?
As Elyse Bruce as well as E.B. Taylor, I have 29 books currently available, and another 4 books that are out-of-print. I also have 4
novels currently in various stages of writing and editing, and a number of short stories of varying lengths, although none of them
are under 5,000 words.
Along with that, I am arranging a collection of music for choirs, and have a radio play as well as a stage play in the early stages of
creation in my office and studio that are being worked on.
I manage to fit my paintings and colored pencil sketches in with all that.
Where is your book available?
My books are available through Amazon as well as Barnes & Noble and various major online portals as well as directly from me at

Elyse Bruce does a lot of cool things. She paints and illustrates. She writes music and plays. She takes photographs and draws
comic books. And she writes a lot of books!
She likes to come up with great projects to help other people, and those great projects usually involve many people, businesses,
and organizations.
In her spare time, Elyse bakes chocolate chip cookies which she then generously shares with friends and family.
