Sometimes, like when you find someone’s expecting another baby or the price of eggs is not so bad this week, it’s fine.
Then there are the shock-to-the-system joys that hit during a bad week, lifting you above the world’s messes for just a little while.
I soft-released a book this week so my ARC readers could enjoy it first. It wasn’t announced; the launch isn’t until April. It released on Monday after 6 (really around midnight-I was pulling an all-nighter). I got up, set up a book funnel to spread it to the ARC friends, and then noticed the book had gone to #1 among new releases, followed by # 1 in social work books, #9 in women’s biographies…I thought it was a mistake, I’d not had something hit market that high the first full day out. I checked, and no, it wasn’t an error. It stayed there for 3 days and is just now drifting back down. The reviews are coming in good as well. “I could read more of MS Pelton’s memoirs. From her first book to this one, I was brought into her world. Highly recommended.“

I can’t wait to see what happens when I actually advertise it!
And the unexpected downers: the up of the book was crashed by the down in the form of my car breaking down. Yes, my lovely, reliable Taurus lost its engine shield just sitting in the driveway. It fell off with a sudden crash and I thought the car was going to blow up. Nothing quite so dangerous but hard on the old nerves.Good grief. Entropy lives.
And due to a power outage midway, none of this last brood of chicks hatched out so we are putting the brooder away and looks like I’ll buy a few chicks at the farm store locally.
In the meantime, F and S are off on a weekend jaunt, so we have the CBW all weekend. That’s going to be taxing. She is bright, curious, and into everything, and her favorite word is “why.”

And in the meantime, this is what I have set up for you for special this week; another new book, this one a cookbook of crazy recipes and stories of my .lady ancestors who invented and served them:
