Now, here’s a little family news: we decided to camp for a couple of days with our grandbabies. It was a lot more hassle than expected, but I suspect the craziest part was taking the 1- and 4-year-olds on a short nature walk. The littlest started walking funny, and I am thinking, rats, she just messed her pants. We got her back to the RV, and I found she had been putting rocks in her diapers. The diaper itself was dry; however, using it as a container for street pebbles isn’t conducive to good hikes.

Speaking of strange discoveries, I had been losing my mind trying to find the source of an offensive odor in my kitchen. After three hours of intense search, cleaning things that were not dirty but needed to be moved to check behind, I found out the youngsters had been playing with small potatoes, put some in a cup of water, and set it behind the dog’s pen. Spoiled potatoes smell like an entire mouse colony has taken the Kool-Aid and died…
On to a different frustration: I have had it to here with political ads. They are everywhere, as commercials on TV (and if I hear one more person accusing some other person of being the one approving sex operations for kids on what is supposed to be family TV time, I will barf.) And the pop-ups. Here I am trying to answer some of my friends/fans, and in the middle of it, a pop-up arrives on a non-monetized private page. Sure not going to vote for that bozo. I know they “need to get my message out,” but most of the messages are so filled with vitriol that all you know is they are horrible people, and why would I vote for that? We already have plenty of them out there. I plan to vote, but really, stop the hate! What do you think?
When we returned from the camping trip, we found another nest of kittens by the garage. They are very sweet, small, multicolored, and totally not wanted. I do wish folks would stop dropping their unwanted pet cats near my barn. I don’t believe they are finding their way here by themselves. This one had a collar on her and had been reasonably well fed. That sort of irresponsible behavior is right up there with the politicians.

I had three medical appointments yesterday, none bringing good news. I may have spinal surgery in the future. I will be having spinal injections. It will not get better. I ought to just go back to bed.
I am starting to sound like a crabby old lady, aren’t I? I am not meaning to be. But after six days of gorgeous early fall weather, we have hit a rain field. I spent the day cleaning out my craft room, looking for that odious stench, and keeping two bored great-grands busy.
However, I did complete the Christmas book. I ordered the cover from the wizard I work with at 100Covers, and I hope to have it out in early November. It is definitely a happy /sad ending, need a box of tissues close by kind of book.
In the meantime, this is our first October special, and the other weeks will follow with specials on Christmas books. Can you believe we’re heading into October and the fall? Where did the year go?
October 1-8 Firebird Simmers is a lovely book for fall.
This is our 99-cent download special for the first week of October.
To give you a taste, join me as we travel this twisted path to creatures once known and now living in legends and myths. Folklore is based on something that once was there or still is, seen only by those judged safe to trust. This and the next 2 books in the Hidden America Series are about the Firebird, who brings storms and fire and protects the people. (Remember the first three were about everyone’s favorite legend, Bigfoot). This particular Firebird must learn to control her fire, learn who to trust and fall in love with her guardian. What legends live where you live? Have you seen something slide behind a boulder, seen only as a blink out of the corner of an eye? Do you wonder at things that slip by in the darkness? Are you ready to confront the things hidden in plain sight? Get your download now and start your journey into the unknown close by.
And that sums up this week’s news and views, and I hope to see you next week. Until then, thanks for joining us on this visit. Drop me a comment, leave a review; I appreciate them all. Blessings to all.
