Meteors, Snow, and Car Troubles, All in One Week

Some days, I’d like to go home…like sixty years ago when someone else could worry about adulting.

Just pretend you aren’t here great-grandma. Be a mermaid

Happy first day of Spring!  And today is warm here, misting a little but no cold breeze. Violet is out playing in the backyard; Dan is working on his 3-D printer (she considers it her magic machine). I spent a couple of hours hoeing out my car so it would be ready for our vacation trip.  I really needed something less to do, because this week has been one fiasco after another, and none of it could have been avoided.

Taking a nap is also good.

Sunday, it was seventy degrees and lovely out.

Monday, it snowed. Alana’s car blew a head gasket and needs to be repaired before she can go to the beach (it’s 535 miles one-way from home to our beach rental). The mechanic can see it next Monday.  And we have the shearing of the beasties that Monday as well.  And Dan worked on storm clean-up.

Tuesday, Dan had set up an appointment for us to do pre-funeral planning so the kids won’t have to worry about it when we pass.  That did not put me in a particularly good mood, and when I got home I discovered Fawn’s car had its transmission die, and there was no way to repair it. She has to find a new car in the next week. As I write, she and Scott are out madly looking for a car to buy, one they can have ready for our leaving next Sunday. And that night, a meteor hit Ohio, and there were meteor enthusiasts dashing everywhere, looking for hot rocks. And Dan worked on storm clean-up.

Wednesday, the following day, we sold two of our alpacas; one of them decided she was having none of it and cushed (that’s lying down with finality).  We had to put furniture hauling belts on her and haul her down our driveway to where the escape truck was waiting. And Dan worked on storm clean-up. (Did I mention that we had 4 trees uprooted by the storm, and those knocked down several fences?)

Thursday, as Dan was going over my car with a fine-tooth wrench, he discovered the tire compressor used to pump up the spare tire, if we ever need it, was no longer with the car, so we had to go get one to fit the space that had been set up for the original one. Luckily, our car dealer had one in stock. He had to replace the front faucet in Ben’s kitchen. Our writer’s group at the library went well that evening, but we were bone-tired from the ongoing cleanup from last week’s windstorm. I am very lucky neither of us fell asleep during the meeting.

Friday, I headed off to buy groceries and run errands.  That did not go too badly. On the way home, I was listening to the radio and found out Chuck Norris, one of the dearest actors/martial arts people/Christian gentlemen in the world, died. Of course, he was 87, but still, the loss of a good man is a loss to us all. Rest in peace, Chuck.  And may the Good Lord bring consolation to your family.

Now I am sitting here getting this update, my note to my friends, fans, and other family done, trying to decide what I can do to make sure you all have a good week next week, and I think our special will do just that.

March 23-27 My brand-new book, The Space Trilogy, over 500 pages, will be a free download so my die-hard fans can get their hands on a copy for free and send in reviews.  I can’t wait to read your reviews, and when you post your review on Amazon, let me know. And what is this book about?

This is good, hard-core Sci-Fi, combining the three books of the Post-Terrestrial Oberllyn family, adding scenes, re-editing, and refining. This omnibus follows autistic savants Micah Oberllyn and his friend Sir Alex Stevens as they graduate and find their place in the Oberllyn family think tank.  No one realized how serious their desire for space travel had become until they presented the family with a working ship.  From developing a working colony to falling in love, the Oberllyn’s must weather the breaking up of the family network as fully half of the worldwide family decides to immigrate to the Mars colony. While the Oberllyn Think Tank struggles to get the colony on Mars to be safe, independent of outside influence, and self-sufficient, Micah, Kai, Gabriel, and Sir Alex have their hands full trying to stop the imminent collapse of the world’s climate.  They find a most unexpected mind behind it all, an old frenemy of the family. How do you destroy someone who’s been dead 300 years? If you enjoy Sci-fi, suspense, bad guys getting what they deserve, space travel, love, and happy endings, this book will take you there.  Get your free copy this week only, after which it jumps back to its regular price of $7.99, unless you have KU.  Otherwise, download your copy for free and prepare to be ferried away on imagination’s wave.

And don’t forget: we start the contest next week.  Watch for details!
