August Special, Winners, Welcome to New Folks, Scheduling, Brain Studies

And how not to mix them!

Good day!

You recall I said I would be late this week with the newsletter due to a day of brain testing?  I survived, yes; my brain is there, working at optimum for an ancient lady, and it is still intact.  Cleveland Clinic is running a longitudinal brain study with over 4000 people volunteering for yearly testing to help them find a cure for Alzheimer’s and other brain-related diseases.  Dan and I are volunteers, and the worst part about the study is the traffic in Cleveland. They are redoing the area all around the clinic, and there are blocked roads, missing buildings, huge equipment, fences, and just about anything you can imagine surrounding the building we need to get to for our part in the study.  We were late due to our GPS’s inability to contend with the construction confusion.

But it is over for another year. I can get back to my regular life, including writing. And before I forget, the winners in this contest were: Linda G, Linda D, Debbie G, Mike S, and Krista H. Books will be mailed out Monday! Congratulations! (I was giving out two books, but when I saw how many new folks entered, I added three more.)

And also, I want to welcome all the new folks from this month’s giveaway: nearly five hundred more people joined our intrepid group! Thank you and welcome everyone.

Last Thursday, we took delivery of a new fridge, and it’s a lot larger than our old one. Unfortunately, it leaks from the ice maker. We called Lowe’s, and they are sending someone out Sunday morning around 7 am to repair it.  Considering I don’t get up until 8, that’s going to be a trick. My other time option was Friday while we were in Cleveland for testing. So, Sunday it is.

F&S went to the Ohio State Fair Friday while we were being poked, prodded, and tested.  Alana and the kids went to the local county fair and loved it. Dan and I ate at a small restaurant after the testing and went to Target birthday shopping. I’ll be starting canning Sunday morning. I need to make dill pickles for Dan, put up tomato sauce before they get ahead of me, and can a half bushel of peaches. I expect to be done by Monday noon.  My canning cabinet will look so nice, filled with just enough space left for the applesauce later.

I don’t know what it is, but I want to take it home

Tuesday, Dan, the babies, and I are headed for the state fair. Wednesday, we babysit and recover and host a joint birthday party. Thursday, I see the pain doctor and teach at the library afterward, and Friday I prep for home church.

Can you see why I love Sabbath? On Sabbath, I rest, as the commandment says. You ought to try it. An entire day of you rest instead of you run. It’s marvelous. And now, this week’s special is (drum roll appropriate or maybe trumpet voluntary):

August 2-9, my brand-new Social Work Memoirs book will be on special for one week! Thank you to all the KU and ARC readers who have read it these past two weeks; now it’s time for everyone else. I can’t wait to read your comments and reviews.

Why Would You Try to Make This Up? will be a 99-cent download—and always free on KU.

If you believe your work is unpredictable, I invite you to explore mine. This book continues my collection of concise, nearly true-to-life accounts, some deeply humorous and others tragic. Reality offers a fascination that fiction cannot match. The experience may transform your perspective. Available in KU.

And that’s it for now. Wish me luck on the hamster wheel of this week…did I tell you somewhere in there I’m finishing off a new self-help devotional on self-esteem repair? And almost done with the new Sci-fi book, Tor. Oh, my. I will let you know when they are about to drop. And I am starting this year’s Christmas Beyond the Veil, book 3.
