What a Difference a Storm Makes!

And of course, Cocoa decided to have her pups a couple days early during the thunderstorm, but she was safe and warm.

August Marketing 2025

What a difference a storm makes!  Or as our meteorologist says, the changing of the fronts.  Right now, the temperature is twenty degrees cooler and humidity 25% less than yesterday at this time.  It’s lovely and makes it hard to stay inside and get other things accomplished that need done just as much as the garden.

I went grocery shopping and the oddest occurrence happened. I had completed the purchases and gone to my car.  I pushed the button and the back hatch flipped up as usual.  I was putting the groceries in the back, packing them into reusable bags when a lady with along car pulled up behind me and waited for a few moments for me to finish. When she could see I was packing frozen things in cooler bags and the rest reusables, she got mad, started swearing, very upset, complaining to her companion about how long it was taking me to unload.  She thought I was deliberately being obstinate and finally got out of her car and asked me to get out of the way, she needed to pull up closer. It was a very long car.

Now she was only about four feet from me.  It takes 3 feet for my trunk hatch to swing out and relatch.  I explained she really couldn’t move much closer, and she icily responded, “I wanted to pull through but you’re so slow I at least need to pull up closer.”

The grocery cart was against my car sideways.  I was next to it. I was nowhere near the end of my parking slot. She pulled up almost to the cart, got out and stormed off. I called after her that I hoped my trunk lid didn’t hit her car when it came down.  She ignored it and rushed off with her girlfriend gossiping loudly about old people shouldn’t be out buying groceries, they ought to use the delivery service.

I think that lady needed a binky or a spanking.

Now, I’m sorry, I may have white hair but I am not old.  I doubted either of these ladies had ever put up hay or delivered a cria or canned all day.  I shook my head, finished putting the groceries in when a nice man came up and said, “Ma’am I’d deem it an honor to take your cart right now. And if your car mashes her hood, I saw nothing.”  I laughed. He took the cart and I pushed the button.  We missed her by half an inch.  I drove off on my next errand but couldn’t help thinking how miserable some folks must be if all they can do is fuss at total strangers.

Well, I need to go out and unpack the groceries, so let’s do the monthly specials announcement now. Two months ago was freebies, last month was 99 cent specials and this month, I’m going with both and a theme of summer comfort foods and relaxing in a chair with a good book.  Let’s see what’s ahead:

Free Aug 4-8  Piper’s Impasse, book one of the Hidden America Series has been totally re-covered and edited, as have the other two Piper books. Piper’s plans were to finish her dissertation; graduate, teach, research, marry a professor, have 2.5 kids, and live happily ever after. Visiting Baxter State Park to complete her research she met Sebastian, a handsome, well-mannered war veteran with a very sketchy past and present. Now nothing is certain, Bigfoot is real and the military is after her.

It’s an adventure with a few twists: and its free on Amazon as a download this week.
